Project Critique

7 Week Critique Program :

Photographers + All Mediums Sessions

A focused, small-group critique program for artists who want to better understand their work and make stronger decisions in their practice.

This program is offered in two formats:
Photography / lens-based sessions and all-medium sessions, open to artists working across disciplines.

Artists in this program are given the space and dedicated time to return to ideas, images, and themes: developing them further through consistent critique and feedback. The structure supports both experimentation and revision, allowing artists to test new approaches, resolve lingering questions, and build momentum toward exhibitions, publications, or continued independent practice.

You’ll receive feedback from Super Secret Projects director, curator, and photographer Diana Vidal, drawing from her hands-on experience curating exhibitions, jury for open calls, working directly with artists, and her role at the International Center of Photography.

Each session is limited to 8 artists to keep the group focused, supportive, and in-depth.

About Project Critique

Project Critique is a 7-week program built around sustained engagement with your work through weekly critique, discussion, and direct feedback.

Artists present work twice during the program, both in progress and more resolved, allowing for ongoing feedback, reflection, and adjustment. Returning to the work creates space to test ideas, refine direction, and make more intentional choices.

There is also dedicated space within the program for questions, reflection, and support as your work evolves, including discussion around materials, editing, sequencing, and navigating opportunities such as open calls, applications, proposals, and presenting your work.

Sessions include artist presentations, group critique, and guided discussion, all within a small group setting that supports focus, dialogue, and accountability.

    Week 6 : Artist Best Practices + Material Q&A

This session shifts slightly to focus on the practical side of being a working artist.

We’ll go over best practices for preparing your work portfolios, documentation, submissions, and general organization. There will also be space for open Q&A around materials, process, and any questions that have come up during the program.

Week 7 — Where the Work Is Now

We end by looking at where the work has landed.

Each artist shares what they’ve developed over the course of the program. This isn’t about a finished product. It’s about seeing what’s shifted, what’s clearer, and what direction feels next.

WHAT YOU’LL GAIN

A clearer understanding of what your work is doing and how it communicates, along with stronger decision-making around materials, form, editing, and direction. You’ll develop the ability to recognize patterns, strengths, and areas for growth, while building a more consistent and engaged relationship to your work over time. The program supports greater clarity in your direction and next steps, leading to a deeper understanding of your overall practice and work that has been actively developed, challenged, and pushed forward.

About Your Instructor

The program is led by Diana Vidal, artist and Director of Super Secret Projects. Working across photography, videography, sculpture, and handmade bookmaking, Diana brings a multidisciplinary perspective to contemporary art. She leads workshops, portfolio reviews, and artist-development programs, and co-founded Beacon Photo Club, a community initiative that connects local photographers.

As a Teaching Assistant at the International Center of Photography, she combines the insight of a practicing artist with a curator’s eye. Her critique method helps artists see how their work functions, recognize recurring patterns, and make more intentional decisions. She encourages meaningful experimentation while grounding feedback in practical strategies for development, fostering both conceptual clarity and technical growth.
