Personal Protest: An Open Call, Gallery Show

For Super Secret Projects, art = community.

As an artist-run gallery, we aim to create exhibits that are innovative and that gives a place for artists to experiement and create a space for artists to meet and share.

As we grow as a collective, we find ourselves yearning to give as many opportunities to our fellow artists in the community as possible. This is why we are calling for more community art to fill our walls with the theme: Personal Protest.

Personal Protest is an open call to artists of all disciplines to explore the nature of protest beyond its utility as a political act, but as a personal interrogation of our reaction and resistance to the moral, practical, and spiritual conditions that challenge our personal values.

You will find more information about the theme, important info and submission form below.

-SUBMISSION FORM BELOW-

  • Personal Protest an open call to artists of all disciplines to explore the nature of protest beyond its utility as a political act, but as a personal interrogation of our reaction and resistance to the moral, practical, and spiritual conditions that challenge our personal values.

Can protest exist without political implications, or is the political inherently  personal? Is protest a fundamental aspect of human nature, or an evolutionary response to modern pressures? The things we defend against shape who we are, and by reframing acts of resistance, we can view them as tools for radical self-actualization. Ultimately, the creation of art can stand as a form of protest—a powerful expression of our core humanity that defies instrumentalization and asserts our intrinsic freedom.

Diana's is a multi-media artist whose curatorial work and art pieces have been showcased at galleries including Transmitter Gallery in Brooklyn, Beacon Artist Union, Garrison Art Center, Site:Brooklyn and Super Secret Projects.

  • Allegra Jordan serves as a co-director + Gallery Coordinator. She is a Beacon based oil painter and began painting with oil in 2013. Her work focuses on the realities of young parenthood, grief, and maturing during late stage capitalism.
